Mt. Airy News - Top Story #1 (con't)

(continued from front page)

If you read the primary local newspaper in Mount Airy, you might get the impression that the entire population of the city endorses the coddling of illegal aliens, but in fact it is primarily the newspaper's editor and some city officials. For some reason they have decided that they speak for the entirety of the city when they engage in overt invitations and celebrations to and for the illegal alien community as if it represented the will of the people.

It does not.

Please, when engaging with Mount Airy officials in your plans for a possible business here, be certain to insist that all "facts and figures" presented be declared to be exclusive of illegal aliens. Pointedly ask ALL officials with which you engage whether they support the use of illegal labor, and INSIST that they pledge to NOT include such devious components in your business plans. We want your future in Mount Airy to be free from risk of avoidable catastrophes like a workforce dissolution as the result of U.S. citizenship issues.

The "Mt. Airy News" website has been set up to foster an honest and open relationship with businesses wanting to protect their investments and accomplishments. It is IN NO WAY officially affiliated with the city of Mount Airy, Surry County, or any other form of government, nor does the Mt. Airy News website officially speak on the behalf of any person or entity other than itself.

Consider this nightmare scenario for farmers, landscapers, hoteliers, etc., that are currently exploiting illegal immigrants to do their menial labor - you know, the stuff that Americans supposedly will not do. If an amnesty law of some sort is passed, suddenly there will be millions new "American citizens" that will be descended upon by civil rights lawyers to assert their rights for better work conditions, pay and benefits that comport with what other legal citizens are receiving. All of a sudden those employers will be faced with the often debilitating task of dealing with teams of lawyers, and will be forced to increase pay rates, grant work breaks, provide government-approved facilities (no more crapping in the spinach fields), sign everyone up for Workman's Compensation, probably provide some level of health insurance, grant vacation time, pay into retirement plans, pay Unemployment Insurance costs, accommodate all of the politically correct amenities and activities and training, etc., etc., etc.

The problem is not so much that all of those issues are necessarily insurmountable - indeed multiple thousands of businesses that employ only legal workers do every day - it is that those entities have a business model based on not having to deal with them. Employers of illegal immigrants have been exploiting the fear and desperation of their workers to their own benefit, under the guise of compassion. Make no mistake about it, the primary motivation is self-centered greed. The United States government already subsidizes farmers - even the evil tobacco farmers - in order to manipulate market prices. If the illegal labor force was not in place, subsidies would eventually increase because the politicians and bureaucrats know that they cannot allow our food supply to perish. I do not endorse that model, but it is a fact.

So again I implore you, if you are considering setting up a business in Mount Airy, be certain to demand that officials be open and forthright about their intentions when soliciting your cooperation. Mount Airy will be an excellent choice and we appreciate your consideration. Please regard this article as a sample of the way our residents will watch out for and protect your investment in Mount Airy.
